Opticar

At the OPTICAR research project Myestro in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the FZI Research Center for Information Technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology developed a demonstrator vehicle for stereo camera systems in autonomous vehicles.

The Opticar, a vehicle scaled 1:4, is used for testing new technologies and for teaching purposes.

COP-System

The patented COP-System enables a vehicle to detect its whole surrounding using 12 fisheye cameras. The cameras are grouped into 6 stereo camera pairs, placed around the vehicle. For detecting the close surrounding these stereo camera pairs are used. To detect the further surroundings single cameras can be used as stereo camera pairs, with a base line up to the full width of the vehicle. This is possible due to the use of RubberStereo™ and fisheye cameras.
